He was also one of the Branded, which he revealed to Sephiran, who provided him with the blessed sword Alondite and the blessed black armor so that he could become the Black Knight. It is implied that he is the personal general of Prime Minister Sephiran, Duke of Persis.

Sephiran's Disciple

The Ball

goddess-of-thunder:

[ Ishtar smiled at his answer, but that’s all she could do. She couldn’t offer to show her around Judgral one day, because she was supposed to be dead and no one would want her back anyways. Most likely, she’d be put to trial…which was something she could accept…but she really wanted to forget about her old life…make a new one with this new opportunity…and all these new people. Still, she simply never could let go of it in many ways… ] I came here for the very ball, because I think this is how a party should be, not with strangers or nobles you have to drone on and on to. [ Talk with her old friends, dance, the like. But honestly, she wouldn’t have come if all her new friends weren’t here. ]

[ Ishtar giggled as well, once she was finished. But her eyes widened when he said strategist…like Liza and somewhat Ishtor? No, no, she couldn’t strategize a whole battlefield of people…she was irresponsible and she didn’t know how to do it…and what a compliment. Her cheeks flushed as she blew in a breath. ] No no, my brother was much better at that. [ She waved her hand nonchalantly at the matter and smiled. ] I am a simple magic user… [ And that gave way to ponder if she ever wanted to be more than that…but she didn’t linger on it too much. ]

[ She didn’t know why it was so fun to talk to him. She talked so naturally to him, as if he didn’t have any armor on. He was polite, nice, the like, like anyone else, besides Janaff, Shinon, and Leonardo (that’s a half-nice, half-sarcasm for him); maybe, it was chivalry, or his odd quirks, like the armor <strike>and maybe it was the sense of familiarity she received…as if he were a villainous character too</strike>. But she truly enjoyed it. ]

[ When he finished, her jaw dropped as well, was he serious? It wasn’t wrong to dance in armor no no…but could he dance in armor? And did she sense a tone of challenge in that last question? Well…she reasoned, if he could actually move well enough on the battlefield…she could trust him with that, right? She composed herself and almost laughed at her quick change in blatant emotions, she reciprocated his smile. ] It is I who asked for a dance, and if you are able to, I will not hesitate to take your offer on. [ She bowed her head and nodded towards the dancefloor. /I’ll wait for your confirmation before heading there/ ]

Zelgius could sympathize with Ishtar’s reason for attending the ball. He knew all about conversing with nobles, after all he receives his orders from the Senate and they’re more hard-headed than your average nobleman. Thinking about it made him chuckle. “Nobles do tend to be rather dull when it comes to conversation.”

When her composure changed by his suggestion of a strategist, he couldn’t hold back his smile. She appeared flustered and denied his idea, which caused him to laugh. “My lady, no one has ever become a strategist in a day, it takes practice and experience, but I believe you have the right mindset to take on the challenge. Perhaps one day soon, when I’m training the soldiers, you could come and assist me? If you enjoy it, you can continue, if you don’t, no harm done. It’s worth a try, wouldn’t you say?”

Zelgius smiled slyly when he saw her reaction to his response. He knew he could do ballroom dancing easily if he could fight Ike well enough in a suit of armor. “Very well, my lady, shall we?” He held out his hand for her to take so that he could escort her to the dance floor. What was he thinking? So much for not trying to drag any more attention to himself.

The Ball

goddess-of-thunder:

[ She thought it was poor of her to judge the man like that, thinking that he was omniscient. She raised an eyebrow and felt instantly better at the irony that they both apologized in. ] What made you come to this? [ She asked curiously. Surely, he had an ulterior motive or inspiration to come. She thought it was because of Sephiran, but she hadn’t seen him in a while, and the rper didn’t blame him. He had long-butt posts to reply to. ]

Definitely, next time. [ She nodded happily. Shopping with a guy wasn’t new, she went shopping with Julius all the time…or more like Julius dragged her shopping with him all the time. Not that she didn’t like it…but this would be interesting with Zelgius. ]

[ Now, she was being completely serious, but when Zelgius laughed, she couldn’t help but laugh along. It was a ridiculous talent, but she knew it was a skill she had honed and mastered. Amusingly, she began to explain it with large hand gestures and raised her chin, as if an old scholar explaining a battlefield/whatever(words cannot form in my head at the moment). ] Just like you said, parties are just like battlefields. You have to choose a sharp and effective tongue to duel your guests with. A strong defense is needed, suitable clothes, so that you don’t end up drunk, and oh…[ She grinned wryly. ] The dancing is the hardest of arts, you can’t use your training techniques, all you’ve ever trained for…dashed by using only your heart and your mind to blow your partner off their feet. [ Enlightened now? She felt more satisfied with a more direct answer from her thoughts. ]

[ Honestly, she liked poking his armor, and wasn’t ashamed to talk in public to the only guest with an extra two hundred pounds worn on him, unlike what her mother would probably object to. She found him fun. Such a nice new friend. She hoped they were friends at least. If not, she/more like me the creepy rper/ was going to make sure that happened. ]

[ She giggled and then smiled, glancing between the dance floor and him. ] I would ask if you would like to dance. [ She knew it was a bold gesture for the woman to ask, but the fire in her eyes could be shown that she didn’t care about inequality at the moment. ] But I don’t think you’d be able to. [ She smiled nonchalantly, as if saying she was okay with him just like that anyways. ] Instead, we can talk right?

Zelgius pondered Ishtar’s question for a moment, why did he come? He wished to visit different lands mainly. Begnion wasn’t at war, so Zelgius had no real reason to travel any and he was stuck in the castle most of the time. Sephiran was busier than usual lately causing Zelgius to find himself alone quite often. “To be honest, my lady, I came because I had never been here before. I enjoy visiting other countries and when I was given the chance to come here, I took it. I didn’t really think about the ball until much later.” As he finished, he rubbed the back of his neck and frowned.

As Ishtar explained, in depth, what it took to master the skill of parties, Zelgius watched each gesture with a rather amused expression on his face. As she finished, appearing satisfied by her answer, Zelgius chuckled. “My lady, have you ever considered becoming a strategist? If you can plan so well for a party, I wouldn’t dare dream of what you could plan on the battlefield.”

Zelgius was rather surprised by how friendly Ishtar spoke with him, even when he spoke with Sephiran there was always a sense of superiority in his voice, but her’s gave Zelgius a sense of equality. We must look pretty strange, he thought with a smile, a energetic young lady and a heavily armored man. He was glad he met Ishtar, she seemed rather kind, something he wasn’t use to.

When she asked him to dance, his eyes widened and his jaw nearly dropped. Then she finished her comment and he put on a wry grin. “My lady, you wound me, I dance on the battlefield in this armor, why wouldn’t I be able to dance on a ballroom floor?” He paused and chuckled. “But I understand if you don’t wish to take that chance.”

The Ball [open]

goddess-of-thunder:

[ She fell into the same silence he led them both into, but after only a few seconds, she had to start talking again. ]

And umm…? [ She gestures for him to go on, but then she keeps talking and waits for him to respond. But if he didn’t, then that was fine, she could respect his decision. He didn’t have to talk.

She poured herself the red liquid /wine?/ and held the cup to her lips, listening to his part of the talk. And then she almost flung the cup out of her hand and gaped at him. ]

General! [ She called shocked. ] I’m sorry… [ she started a bit in a sorry tone. ] I was just thinking that…well you are a general, you should have been invited to parties before…?

You should have told me…we could have found something to dress you in! [ She pouted. She had attended so many formal gatherings and events and parties and ohh…it made her sick almost. From young ages too. ]

I’ve been to so many I think I’ve mastered some sort of skill lying within parties. [ She sighed and gave him a frown. ] I think it’s okay if you’re like this, it’s better than having to talk to people all day just to please them.

[ She poked his armor and smiled again as all the memories flashed back. Her mother. Who played with her like a puppet in formal gatherings, tight corsets, revealing dresses, alcohol resistance training to talk with more nobles, and conversation tips and liners. In a sense, she hated parties. But she could give this one an exception. She was dead to everyone in her old world, no one could stop her from having fun here. ]

Of course, this ball includes all your friends, right? We’ll have fun somehow… [ She smiled encouragingly.]

Zelgius was surprised by how alarmed Ishtar was by his lack of attending parties. “Sorry? My lady, please, don’t be sorry. Its not that I haven’t been invited to balls before…its just that, I’ve…well, I’ve never thought about attending one until now.”

When she spoke of an outfit, Zelgius smiled and chuckled softly. “Well, perhaps we can find one for next time?”

The way she spoke of mastering the skill behind parties caused Zelgius to laugh. “I never thought of it like that. I suppose I had only seen the battlefield as a place to hone skills, but now I see that I was misguided. Thank you, my lady, for enlightening me.” He said with an amused tone to his voice.

Zelgius chuckled as she poked his armor and smiled, but remained silent when she appeared deep in thought until she apparently made up her mind and spoke again.

Friends? He never really thought of anyone as a friend, only his master Sephiran. “Yes, of course, my lady. I’m sure we’ll find something to keep ourselves entertained.” He smiled back at the young lady.

At the table - Zelgius, Cormag and Janaff

the-hawk-kings-eyes:

As Janaff arrived at the rather large ballroom area, his eyes lit up with all of the bright colours and fancy looking decorations that were around. Everything looked amazing and really in place.

“Wow, the beorc really pulled through this time huh? This place is pretty sweet.”
The laguz smirked and made his way to the table as it was called out. He would nod and wave to some of the other members who would greet him, a few he missed, some he has never met before, but he seen his card on the table, and picked it up.
“Hmm.. yup that’s me..I wonder who else is on my table..”

Janaff looked around for a moment, before taking his seat and flexed out his wings so he could relax, now awaiting the next person to sit on his table

Zelgius had been wandering around the ballroom, trying not to look too awkward in his armor when he noticed one of the bird tribe sitting down next to his own chair. He sighed, almost hoping he would have been seated alone, but he couldn’t do anything about it now. Walking over to the table, he pulled out a chair next to the laguz and sat down.

“Hello, sir, enjoying your evening? It appears we’re to be seated together.” Zelgius said with a smile. The laguz looked familiar, but he couldn’t place a name with the face.

The Ball [open]

goddess-of-thunder:

[ Ishtar was already ready and waiting. She was leaning against the wall staring at the near empty ballroom floor. More people slowly leaked in after minutes that had begun to pass…she sighed and waited for someone she knew to come in.

And there was no doubt that the familiar figure encompassed in armor was Zelgius. Her face brightened and she went after him. Though she was slightly disappointed that he was still wearing it. ]

Good evening, Zelgius. How surprising you’re wearing armor to this peaceful gathering. [ She said in a casual and joking tone. She liked to have that kind of tone around people, since she never did before. ]

Come on, it’s a formal evening, why don’t you relax? [ She asked, a bit more seriously this time. ]

As Zelgius poured his drink he saw a figure moving toward him, he braced himself for a complaint about what he was wearing. He turned toward the person to find the familiar face of Ishtar, he sighed with relief and smiled at her.

“Good evening, my lady. Yes, I…umm…” He had no idea what to say for an excuse so he just went quiet and took a sip of his drink. She told him to relax and he looked a little embarrassed.

“To be honest, my lady…I’ve never been to a ball before, I don’t even own the proper attire for such an event.” He looked down, almost ashamed of himself. He wasn’t lieing though, he didn’t have any nice clothing considering all the formal events he attended were usually about soldiering or wartime, so it was never strange for him to wear his armor, but this was something completely different. For once in his life, Zelgius was baffled and had no idea what he was doing.

The Ball [open]

Zelgius could tell from the moment he arrived at the ball that the night was going to be a long one. Even the guards at the front gate stared at him strangely in his armor, not that he was surprised, he looked like he was prepared to march to war, not ballroom dance. Why did I come again? Maybe this was a bad idea… Luckily he was one of the first few to arrive so he didn’t have to worry too much just yet. He looked through the parchments till he found his own name and made a mental note of where it was before walking toward the refreshments to pour a drink and try not to look too awkward.

[OOC: FORGIVE ME OMG I'M SO SORRY AGAINA;LSKDFLSKDF /my laptop's dying and lskdfjdlsf/]

((OOC: Lol, its okay, I kinda fell asleep for a bit there >_> sorry, forgive me too))

[Zelgius - Ishtar]

goddess-of-thunder:

[ Unlike Zelgius’ pokerface, Ishtar was a rainbow of emotions. So when she first met him with the brief smile and serious composure, her eyebrow furrowed as she realized he was being almost stoic. Not that it was a problem, she just felt that he was limited in free speech in a way…

She inwardly hoped it wasn’t because he was a general and that the two would become better friends and trust each other—-

And then he smiled. And that made her smile. Everything’s normal again to her. ]

Not as unique as yours. [ She says and smiles a look of gratitude and gives him a knowing look. All foreigners had unique names. But she hadn’t met one that strated with ‘Z’. ]

Ah yes…Lehran.

[ And then…did his mask of serious and composure falter? She asked herself as she watched the man’s facial behavior carefully. ]

He’s your master? [ She asked. Well, they’re still stuck between a conversation, but it’s so long I don’t think they’ll ever finish it. It sounds funny though. Master. She grins wryly. ] I don’t personally know him…but we met a few times, right her in Beignon actually.

[ She looks ahead of her and smiles almost relieved, to have a person they met in common. It makes her feel a bit more comforted, and she can definitely trust this man a lot more. ]

He was really nice…kind of like an uncle that I never I had. [ She said softly, a silent wish she always wished for. She loved Sephiran in that sense. ] He was so knowledgeable and witty, and we could share a few feelings that I could never talk about to anyone. [ She meant being alone and stuff. Not like feelings feelings. Like love feelings. Dude that’s creepy. ]

Unique? He had never thought of anything about himself as unique, only…different. He chuckled at the thought. “I don’t know about unique, my lady, I suppose its just uncommon from your region.”

As Ishtar spoke of Lehran, Zelgius smiled faintly. Yes, that sounded exactly like his Master. “Yes, Master Sephiran took me under his wing when my family…abandoned me and I have vowed my services to him ever since. He has always been a kind, caring, and wise man.”

Thoughts of preparation

goddess-of-thunder:

[ Ishtar sighed as she wore her usual dress without the cape. She felt bare without the cape, and kept her hands around her arm, as if cold. She missed her cape so much. Like a child’s blanket. But she promised herself that she would lose it for the ball. But it took a lot more strength than she thought.

She can’t help the fact that villain’s clothing is incredibly comfy and fashionable. You don’t see heroes with that kind of fancy clothes. ]

[ She sighed again as she rubbed her arms again, walking around the court, almost running into people a few times, while quickly apologizing. Where was she again? She could only guess a number of places…she had a knack for randomly appearing wherever…but it always turned out okay in the end because she’d always see—

Was that Zelgius? She wondered as she saw a man with armor. Tonight was the night of the ball, surely he couldn’t be wearing his armor! But as she neared the bulky figure, the shade of hair and the unmistakable figure and armor had confirmed her assumption. ]

Zelgius! [ She called and ran up to meet him. ]

As Zelgius paced, deep in thought, he heard his name being called by a familiar voice. Looking around questioningly, he turned to find Ishtar running towards him. Zelgius smiled a little, happy to have some form of distraction, as he waved to the young lady.

“Hello, miss Ishtar. You’re looking splendid this evening, how are you? Have you arrived for the ball tonight?” He spoke with a polite and rather formal tone, smiling at her.

Oh why that's rather odd...[ she thought to herself. ] If it's your second skin, then I can't be rude to judge... [ She nodded and accepted the notion quickly. ] I'm Ishtar of Freege, but I've heard of Beignon before... [ She puts a finger to her chin and taps as she tries to remember where she heard it. Oh Beignon! Naturally, she blurts the only person she can recognize from there. ] Lehran lives there? [ She asked, I mean, people she met usually knew the other people she met. Haha irony. ]

-Zelgius’ expression didn’t change while Ishtar spoke of how odd he was, he had grown use to being ‘odd’, but he smiled as she introduced herself- Ah, a lovely name for a lovely maiden. -his smile turned to a slight frown- I regret to say I have not heard of Freege, however. -He waited patiently for the young lady to think of Begnion, but when she asked about Lehran, it was all he could do to maintain his composure- You know my Master?

[ Ishtar suddenly skipped to the space next to him, and held her hands behind her back. She was astounded by the amount of armor he was wearing. She never understood the extent of the training recruits underwent or the strength they could ever have. She was a magic user, wearing thin, light clothing that wasn't even called 'protection'. So it was amazing to see such people have outer strength. ] Is it heavy? [ She asked, referring to his armor. And offered a curious gaze. ]

Hello, miss… -Zelgius watched the girl curiously as she examined him and his armor, but remained silent till she posed her question- Heavy? To be honest, miss, I couldn’t tell you properly, I’ve been wearing it for so long that I’ve grown rather…accustom to the weight. -He smiled briefly- I am General Zelgius, commander of the Begnion Army -He bowed slightly- Might I have the pleasure of knowing your name, my lady?
